SALEM HILLS HIGH SCHOOL
Course Description:
The Empowerment
Time for Academics course is designed to provide time for students to complete
homework assignments from other classes.
In addition, students will be taught helpful study skills that will help
them become more proficient students.
The students will have access to one-on-one help from their instructor
as time permits. Instructors will do
their best to help students, but instructors will not do homework for the
students.
Student Expectations:
1. (1pt) Students will be in class and on time
every day. (after 2 excused absences an
administrator conference will be called to assess the situation)
2. (1pt)
Students will be prepared with something to do, homework, reading book, etc.
3. (1
pt) Students will follow teacher’s individual classroom rules.
4. (1pt)
Students will work the entire class period.
5. (1
pt) Students will behave in a respectful manner in all associations.
It will be
expected that students will come to class prepared to work on homework or study
current course material every day for the entire class period. If they have no homework to work on or
nothing to study, it is expected that they will have a reading book which they
will read the entire class period. By
meeting the above expectations a student is showing they need and properly use
this time wisely. When a student refuses
to meet these expectations and receive a grade lower than a C in this ETA class
for their final grade, they will need to find another class. Showing up with work to do is the main
purpose for this time.
Grading:
Student’s grades
in this class will be determined by adherence to the Student Expectations,
failure to comply with these rules will result in the loss of Daily Points. There will be 1pt per expectation every day. Students will receive a letter grade based on
the following grade scale:
A 94-100% A- 90-93%
B+ 87-89% B 84-86% B- 80-83%
C+ 77-79% C 74-76%
Lower than 73%
will result in removal from the class or a failing grade.
Hall Passes:
Students may
need to work on assignments in the computer labs, this will be allowed. The student will be given a hall pass which
must be returned to the instructor when the student has completed their work
for the day. Prior to leaving the lab
the lab assistant must sign the hall pass, and comment on the student’s
behavior while in the lab. Abuse of the
Empowerment Time Hall Pass will result in the loss of hall passes for that
student.
